Recovery from High-Control Groups & Spiritual Abuse
Find your own voice. Rebuild trust in yourself.
Leaving a controlling spiritual, yoga, wellness, or personal-development community can bring relief—and also grief, confusion, or uncertainty about whom to trust. You may be questioning beliefs, relationships, or decisions that once gave your life meaning.
You don’t need to call your experience a “cult” or have everything figured out to seek support. There is room here for mixed feelings, unanswered questions, and your own pace.
When belonging comes at a cost
A community may have offered connection, purpose, or a promise of healing while also pressuring you to ignore your needs or defer to a leader. It can be difficult to make sense of both the meaningful experiences and the ways you felt harmed.
You may be struggling with self-doubt, shame, anger, grief, or a sense of having lost touch with yourself. Setting boundaries, making everyday decisions, or trusting new relationships may feel unfamiliar.
A space to reconnect with yourself
Our work can include understanding patterns of coercion and manipulation, exploring what happened without judgment, and making room for the feelings that follow. Together, we can work toward:
Rebuilding confidence in your judgment and choices.
Strengthening boundaries and recognizing pressure or control.
Processing grief, betrayal, shame, and lost time or relationships.
Reconnecting with your values, identity, and sources of meaning.
Exploring spirituality on your own terms, if that matters to you.
Clinical experience and lived understanding
My perspective is informed by my background as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and four years of personal experience in a high-control yoga community. I understand that leaving a group does not always mean its influence immediately ends.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in humanistic and relational psychotherapy, with an integrative perspective informed by mindfulness, attachment, and transpersonal psychology. We will decide together what feels useful and comfortable for you. Your autonomy and choices remain central.
